This is more of a "how-to" than a real recipe. I only say that because of the simplicity in making roasted asparagus in your solar oven.

Solar oven roasted asparagus

Solar roasted asparagus can be made in most any type of solar oven. I use the Sun Oven mostly, but you can make this in a GoSun tube cooker because the asparagus fits in the tube.

Another nice thing about this recipe is that it compliments a meal made on the grill. You can cook your steaks or burgers (or whatever) on the grill while your asparagus cooks in the solar oven. It's easy and you don't really even have to watch it.

Ingredients for Roasted Asparagus

  • Asparagus
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)

How to Make Solar Roasted Asparagus

I finally got a chance to use my new baking dishes with the silicone lids from IKEA and I’m very pleased.

I didn’t make anything fancy here. I drizzled a bit of olive oil on some asparagus, snapped the lid on, and popped it in the Sun Oven. The lid fits so snuggly that I was afraid it would trap too much moisture and the spears would be soggy, but after an hour or so in the Sun Oven on a partially cloudy day they came out just fine.

The black lid does make it pretty much impossible to see what’s going on; however, I knew they were ready by the tell-tale condensation build up on the cooking chamber’s glass door

  • Set the solar oven out to preheat
  • Lay the asparagus out on a flat surface. Drizzle with the olive oil. Apply salt and pepper.

    HI! Love this email!
I must have missed the info on the Ikea containers used to cook the asparagus.
Are you able to repeat the info?
    Thx!

Hi Sherrie - you didn't miss anything. That was just sort of an offhand comment. But these are the containers I was talking about: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/ikea-365-food-container-with-lid-rectangular-glass-silicone-s49567063/. Also, link now in post.
